Tangier Disease Photography By: VTE, Inc. - Virginia Taylor Teddy Laird reminisces of days gone by when he and his sister first went to the National Institute of Health in 1962 as youths to be a part of a study in which statin drugs were later developed. His dad and sister are both deceased due to the Tangier Disease and his mom is currently in a rehab facility in Upstate South Carolina where Laird currently lives today. Laird is now in his 50's.... His love for Tangier Island is obvious as he is most proud of his Tangier Island heritage. Today, there are only approximately 100 cases of Tangier Disease know world-wide...
